- Reliability/robustness , Designed for touring
Touring instruments have it tough, both on stage and on the road. Since 2011, professional drummers have subjected the SPD-SX to the test of fire, both in crowded clubs and in the world's largest stadiums. The SPD-SX PRO continues this legacy, incorporating years of user feedback to make it even better. With its customizable LEDs, large color display, and flawless triggers, you can count on it night after night.
- Customizable LEDs for the pads
When the lights dim in the room, the PRO lights up. Customizable LED pad markers and trigger indicators let you distinguish all nine pads on the darkest stages. No need for fluorescent strips! You can assign horizontal or vertical light markers from the ten preset colors, or create and name your own assortments. Group bass drums, snare drums, playbacks and clicks with their own color codes. And set the luminous horizontal pad markers to be constantly lit, or only when the pad is struck, or to flash dynamically according to the selected WAV file.
- Color LCD display
Playing in the dark is becoming less and less of a problem. The SPD-SX PRO features a large color display with different types of backlit function buttons, and a thumbwheel for quick sound selection. The display shows essential information in real time: A & B sample overlays, WAV sample names, playback progress, etc.
- Sound quality
All the sounds you need
The crowd is roaring. The pressure's on. You need the right sound at the right time. The massive 32 GB memory is capable of holding all the sounds you need for your multiple bands. With 1,550 samples and 200 preloaded kits, and balanced outputs, you'll be able to put your SPD-SX to work without delay. Tags make it easy to sort and find your sounds, without feeling like you're looking for a needle in a haystack.
Under the hood: memory and storage
Memory problems are a thing of the past. With 32 GB of internal memory, the SPD-SX PRO can store almost 44 hours of crystal-clear stereo audio at 48 kHz/16 bit. No need to think about converting your source files. You can load WAV, AIFF and MP3 files in 48/44.1 kHz, with variable bit rates. The SPD-SX PRO will automatically convert them to its native 48 kHz/16-bit format. A huge time-saver
- More audio inputs
The SPD-SX PRO features two balanced stereo master outputs, left and right. You can combine them with the four freely assignable mono audio outputs to benefit from six different audio streams. So each pad can be sent to the output of its choice, to mix according to its needs. And there's also a stereo headphone output that can be assigned to different listening scenarios.
On-board everything: samples and sounds
The SPD-SX PRO is packed with 1550 high-quality sounds and 200 kits (43 erasable preset kits and 157 user kits). In the heat of the moment, the SPD-SX PRO's processing power lets you switch kits without cutting the sounds of the previous kit. So old sounds fade out while new sounds are already ready for the next song. Need more options? Dive into Roland Cloud's sample library to explore an ever-expanding musical universe.
Specifications
- A/B sound layering
It's easy to create custom sound overlays when you assign two sounds to the same pad. You can select a sound for the MAIN layer from the pad menu, then choose another sample to superimpose over the first. This creates two sounds, MAIN and SUB, on the same pad. You can then alternate between MAIN and SUB layers. You can even separate the volume, pitch, transient, attack and release parameters for each sound. In this way, you can create your own layer balance.
- Tools for concerts and the studio
A creative force
Ensuring a high-quality concert requires a minimum of preparation. The SPD-SX PRO is packed with features designed to reduce this set-up time. You can download and organize sounds from a dedicated app, come up with new ideas thanks to four effects generators, and connect a hi-hat controller or expression pedal. Trigger inputs and a built-in 16-step pad sequencer can add even more magic.
Even more precise settings thanks to the dedicated app.
With an almost unlimited amount of sounds under your sticks, you need to stay organized. Thanks to the dedicated SPD-SX PRO app available on Roland Cloud, you can easily import audio, and edit sound and playback settings via USB to your computer. Simply drag and drop samples, elaborate kits, set parameters, and assign a name to the result. The same USB connection lets you send audio and 8-channel MIDI to a computer for recording in multitrack software.
- Expressive pedal control
With more Trigger inputs, you've got more possibilities for playing with your fingers... or your feet. Add in the built-in pads, external triggers and foot controller inputs, and you've got a total of 19 playing surfaces at your disposal. Connect a hi-hat controller like Roland's V-Hi-Hat VH-10, which lets you create open or closed pedal effects, or add bass and snare pads to create a drum minikit. You can also use an expression pedal to control your effects in real time.
- Effects and Sidechain
The many high-quality built-in effects let you expand and color your sounds. Four MFXs provide modulation, distortion, filter, delay and reverb, and you can assign them to the pad or external trigger of your choice, within each kit. Master compression, EQ and effects options are also available for processing the overall output sound. Sidechain compression is provided to ensure that kick drums and other punchy sounds stand out in the mix at all times.
- Multiple inputs for easy mixing
Thanks to the balanced stereo main output and four balanced direct outputs, mixing on stage becomes ultra-simple. You can connect eight single-zone mono triggers, or four dual-zone (skin/circle) triggers. By adding dual external trigger inputs, the
hi-hat and foot switch inputs, you can benefit from a total of 19 different playing surfaces.
- An extra step: the 16-step pad sequencer
Optimize your gig preparation time with the built-in 16-step pad sequencer. Assign from 2 to 16 steps to each pad in a given kit. Then coordinate the playback of individual pads in the sequence of your choice. You don't need to remember which sound is on which pad. Once programmed, hitting the chosen pad triggers the sequence and simplifies your tasks during the concert.
